Thomas FitzSimons was an Irish immigrant who became a leading Philadelphia merchant and a staunch nationalist. One of two Catholic signers, he brought a businessman's perspective to the convention. He was a strong supporter of a powerful central government that could regulate commerce and manage national finances effectively. He spoke often on economic matters and was a firm believer in a government that would foster a thriving American economy.
