Biography

John Blair Jr. was a respected jurist from a prominent Virginia family. Though he did not speak often at the Convention, his presence was a powerful endorsement of its work. A staunch supporter of Washington and Madison, he consistently voted for a strong national government. His subsequent appointment by Washington as one of the first Associate Justices of the Supreme Court demonstrates the high esteem in which he was held by the nation's foremost founder.
