Jared Ingersoll was a highly respected Philadelphia lawyer who had been trained in London. Initially aligned with those who sought only to amend the Articles of Confederation, he was won over by the arguments for a new, stronger government. Though a quiet delegate, his legal expertise was valued, and his decision to join the nationalist cause and sign the document was an influential endorsement of the Convention's work.
