Biography

George Read of Delaware was a man of conservative principles and deep legal knowledge. He was one of only six men to sign both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. At the convention, he was a champion for the rights of small states, but was ultimately a pragmatist who worked to create a strong and stable national government. His signature, despite his initial reservations, showed his commitment to the final, compromised document.
