Biography

Daniel Carroll was one of only two Roman Catholic delegates to sign the Constitution, a symbol of the new nation's promise of religious freedom. He was a late arrival to the Convention but became an active voice, arguing for a government deriving its power directly from the people. He was a steadfast nationalist who later served in the first Congress and was instrumental in selecting the site for the new capital, Washington D.C.
